Taking your bird dog to the next level!

Freight Train Gun Dogs trains all pointing breeds, but we specialize in German Shorthair Pointers. We believe in developing a dog, not breaking a dog. We prefer to start training at the most impressionable stage (5-7 months), however dogs of all ages are welcome. Freight Train Gun Dogs can help you bring home the highest quality hunting companion. We have premium training grounds in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, and areas in the Midwest allowing Freight Train Gun Dogs to be trained in various terrains, creating your optimal hunting dog. Our training disciplines are diverse and have proved to be very successful at the highest levels including NAVHDA, AKC Hunt Tests, Walking and Horseback Trials, and Shoot to Retrieve.

Foundation/Fundamentals Program “Level 1”

  • All dogs start with the Foundation/Fundamentals Level 1 program.

  • A 3-month entry-level program for dogs with no experience or young dogs.

  • This program is for dogs with no exposure to the hunting environment.

  • This program is designed to progress their pointing instinct and develop independence.

  • Dogs will be properly introduced to gunfire, the “whoa” command, field search, and e-collar conditioning.

  • The Foundation/Fundamentals stage exposes your dog to everything it may encounter in its bird-dog life or hunting endeavors.

Gun Dog Program “Level 2”

  • A 3-month minimum program tailored for your bird dog.

  • This program is meant to build upon a dog’s foundational skills and will be tailored to the needs or requests of the owner to “finish” the dog whether your goal is a lifelong hunting companion, hunt test, or competitive field trial dog.
